In March 2017 we had the exciting and very welcome opportunity to introduce our first intern to the Badger Press studio. With support from the Excel internship programme – run by the University of Southampton, we were able to take on Piers Inkpen, a final year fine art student, studying at Winchester School of Art.

Piers spent a busy month with us in the studio. Along with assisting our technician’s broad spectrum of studio duties, Piers was tasked with helping us to produce website content, assisting with 2 ongoing research projects as well as using his own work to help develop studio processes and engage with our 2017 studio exhibition.

A welcome addition to the studio with fantastic application to the role; as well as the obligatory (and very much appreciated) ‘extra pair of hands’, Piers bought plenty of insight and challenging thought to the studio. Now graduated, Piers is finding his feet in the art world, exploring his unique and crafted combination of image and written word. We’re sure to see Piers back in the studio soon as he continues his experiments in printmaking. Our extended thanks to the Excel Southampton Internship Programme for enabling us to engage with this valuable opportunity.
